Ally was sat in the kitchen at her table rubbing her swollen stomach as she stared at Derek’s bowel of food as she chewed on her bottom lip, a nervous habit she had had since childhood- something her grandfather would always tell her off about. The bowel was full. Had been for days, Derek never left food, never mind not touching it! What was stranger- scarier, was the fact that her hadn’t even seen Derek in a few days now! And he never stayed away from home! She was worried, more than worried, she was terrified. He was her baby, what if something had happened to him? She had been out calling him every few hours, but he hadn’t come home. What if something had happened? He was only little! Heaving herself out of her chair and waddled- oh God, she missed be able to walk instead of this stupid penguin impression, over to Derek’s cupboard grabbing a box of his favourite treats before leaving the house.
She had been worried for a while about how he would be with the baby. He had been her baby for so long, getting- no, demanding all of her attention when she was hope, but sitting on her knee, and rubbing his head against her hand demanding strokes. He was a very stubborn cat! Luckily he hadn’t been too concerned by the new furniture arriving at the house or the toys, or even the changes with Ally herself. At least, Ally didn’t think he had been concerned with all these changes- but he had been missing for four days now! “Derek!” She called shaking the box- something that would usually get him to come running at her as fast as his little legs could carry him, “Derek! Here kitty!” No reply.
God, if something had gotten him, a car, an animal, a psychotic kid, she would never forgive herself! He was just a baby, a big softie who thought he was hard, but the second you wore heels and worked on the hard floors would hide behind the sofa like a chicken. How could she lose her cat?! “Come on Derek, this isn’t funny anymore!” She only got him a few months ago, Well... it was coming up to a year now- had it really been that long? Her best friend in New York, Hannah, had bought him for her birthday, knowing how much she loved cats. A small smile played at the corner of her lips as she remember coming back to her apartment to find the tiny black kitten curled up in a ball on her favourite chair. Naturally, she freaked out, not understanding how the little tiny ball of fur had wound up in her apartment, but all became clear when Hannah came out of the bathroom. The two had been inseparable since. Although, Hannah never really understood why on earth she called him ‘Derek’.
The sound of a quiet, timid meow froze Ally in her tracks. “Derek?!” She called again spinning around on the spot! She couldn’t see him, but the second meow told her he was here! Somewhere. He sounded like he was right... above... her. A third. Looking up into the tree she was next to her jaw dropped. There, quiet high in the tree, was Derek. Stuck! “Stupid cat! You can’t even climb down a fence! Why are you up there?” She asked pointing to the floor where she stood, “come down! Come on Derek, you must be starving!” Having found his owner, Derek, stood up and began pacing back and forth on the small branch he was one, excited about finally being found. But... how was she going to get him down? She couldn’t go up, not as far into her pregnancy as she was, but he clearly couldn’t get down. “Derek.” She muttered under her breath as she looked around for a solution, “only you could be such a cliché!” [/size][/blockquote]
