To put it simply, Ally felt pants. Her morning sickness had been lessening recently, but she still had her off days. And this was definitely a lousy day. All she wanted to do was curl up in her bed with a hot cup of coffee and just be away from everyone! That’s all, surely it wasn’t much to ask for. The problem was she had to work at her Grandpa’s bookstore (well... her bookstore now), which was hidden away in the darkest corner of the mall. Granted, it didn’t get as much custom as some of the other bigger, brighter, shinier stores but it made do, and he Grandpa loved it’s ‘character’. Ally groaned, as she leant back against the chair she was sitting on behind the counter. She had been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded, so she figured she’s rather sit down than fall down there was no one in at the moment anyway and she could still serve people from a slightly small height. Amanda (the only other person working there that day) had to leave at lunch when her son threw up at school so she was here alone. Glancing around to confirm this already known detail Ally reached into her pocket pulling out the sonogram picture from her scan the day before. She till hadn’t told a soul, with the exception of Alex and her doctor. Ally knew she had to tell people soon, she’d be showing before too long and people were gonna start getting upset with being kept out of the loop- there as only so much she could get away with by saying she didn’t want to ‘jinx it’. Blue eyes glued to the picture of the life growing inside her, part of her still refusing to believe it, still thinking it was a dream and soon she’ll wake up still in New York, still seeing someone, still naive to think their relationship would survive anything. But she wasn’t, and she knew she had to get a grip, and get over it, tell those whose business it was that she was pregnant, and that start preparing. Whether she was preparing to keep the baby or give it away Ally still had a lot of things to do. First things first, breaking the news. She was just scared.

and after that, sam had driven himself to the bookstore that his mother had told him to before he'd left, so he could buy a few legal books to study. the boy was going to law school -- something his mother and father had decided all on their own. he would study criminal law and political science, and he would be damn good at it, too, and if he didn't do something amazing with his learnings, something bad was bound to happen to him. honorable judge powers and soon-to-be senator powers would make sure of it. "hello," he murmured to the blond sitting behind the counter as he walked in the door, soft voice accompanied with his soft southern accent as he spoke. he flashed a smile, tried to think of where he had seen her before. oh, that was right, she'd been a senior when he was a sophomore. "do you think that you might have some books on law?" his voice was flat as he spoke, just screaming his distaste for anything and everything that had to do with law. he learned enough about the stuff on his father's campaign commercials, and in his mind, there was no need to continue his education with it. sam's eyes flickered to the piece of paper that she was holding in her hand, but he chose to ignore it. people didn't like nosy guys.

Lost in her own thoughts Ally hadn’t heard the man walk up to the counter and at the sound of his voice she jumped up right, quickly hiding the picture from prying eyes, before looking up at him, “what?” she asked blinking a few times before, “oh, law... Right, erm... I think we might have a few,” she thought allowed standing up and walking around the desk and leading him to a section at the back, “I’m afraid we don’t have the greatest collection on Law but if there’s anything you’re looking for specifically I can try and order them in,” she explained simply.
She couldn’t help but notice the distaste in his voice at the mention of the subject, and gave a weak smile, “you going to College soon? Laws a pretty... hardcore subject- good luck,” she told him with a nod her gaze falling to the single shelf of law books. Yeah they didn’t have much on law. Her natural curiosity made her want to know why he spoke about the law in such a negative manner if he was planning on studying it for the next x amount of years, but the manners drilled into her stopped her from asking; it wasn’t her place to ask the stranger for his personal life.
Picking up one of the books she handed it to the boy, “I think this one is supposed to be good,” she explained raising one shoulder in a shrug, “I have a friend in New York who is studying law and he uses this all the time,” she explained.

karma police, arrest this manHE TALKS IN MATHS.HE BUZZES LIKE A FRIDGE.HE'S LIKE A DE-TUNED RADIO.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • lila had liked coming to the bookstore. she liked stories about princesses, and ethan still liked books about animals. he'd never been fond of fairy tales. although, he didn't read very much anymore. hell, sam didn't know what his little brother did. they weren't as close as they once had been, not since lila had passed. so sam had not been very excited to pick up books for his future career as an important politician, just like mom and dad. "that's just fine." he told the girl, following her through a few aisles, hand shoved into his pockets. she hadn't seemed to know who he was, either through the tragedy that was his little sister's story or through his parents, the campaigning senator nor the honorable judge. and he liked that, found it rather refreshing. there weren't many people whose hands he didn't have to shake, tell to vote for his dad or didn't give him sad looks.
sam laughed quietly -- a hardcore subject? that was just barely the start. he couldn't imagine the last time either of his parents smiled for real, not just for the cameras focused on their faces while they made incredibly convincing speeches. it seemed to him that law, while a good moneymaker -- if you were good at it -- seemed to suck all of the life out of people. "yeah," he agreed with a nod, "the parents insist on it." he explained with a shrug. if he ever dared go against them, honorable judge powers and senator powers would both drop dead. of asphyxiation or heart attacks. just thinking about having to study law and what would happen if he didn't made him really, really crave a smoke. something that would also put his parents in the hospital for minor cardiac arrest.
"thank you,"
sam took the book she handed him into his hands, looked it over. it looked just as proper as any law book they had at home, all fancy, leather cover. it would have to do. and he was sure that it would fit right in the bookcase in his dad's study. or his mother's. "new york," he repeated. big cities interested him, though not for their fast pace of life -- he was far too lackadaisical for that -- it just seemed like an easier place to disappear into. this town was too small for disappearing. "you got outta here?" he asked with a lazy half grin, words slurring together on account of his charming southern accent. "lucky you." sam would have to stay in this little town, forever and ever, until he either died or was made a successful politician. he would probably die first. Ally looked at the young man, and bit her lip, she knew his face from somewhere, but couldn’t place it, and it was really, really annoying her, forcing a smile to her lips “I’m so sorry, I’m trying to place your face,” she explained feeling rude- but internally doing a little dance of amusement as she realised she ‘was a poet, and didn’t know it’ when suddenly it hit her, “ooo, you don’t go to Castle High, do you?” She asked hoping that was it, but preparing to look like an idiot. She hadn’t really been following the local politics recently, she knew she really should but she’s had too much going on recently to even think about it all that much, and she wasn’t around Castle Resorts when he had the accident with his sister.
Ally offered a sympathetic look as he explained his parents were insisting on law, she hated it when parents forced their children to do what they decided with their life, they couldn’t control every part of a child’s life, they had to grow and make their own decisions and learn from their mistakes, she had promised to do that with her child, when the time comes and (s)he is getting ready for college, which was something she didn’t even want to think about right now! It was a terrifying thought. “Well, as a last resort if things get too stressful you could always majorly rebel,” the blonde suggested, remembering her little act of rebellion, the tattoo on her inner-thigh that some of her friends still tease her about to this day, she was just so bored of her ‘good girl’ image, “you could... I don’t know, maybe run away with the circus, can you juggle?” Nodding once in confirmation ,”yeah I lived there for a few years, just came back a few weeks ago,” she explained, her polite smile faltering as her thoughts drifted back to her grandpa’s recent death, “it was pretty amazing out there, about as far from this place as you can get.” Leaning back against the wall, Ally tiled her head and asked, “where are you wanting to go to College?”
